After college, I landed my dream job as an entry-level account executive in a major worldwide advertising agency making Super Bowl commercials only to consistently experience “failure” for the first time in my life as a perfectionist and find out that this work didn’t light me up as much as I thought it would when I was studying advertising in college. My soul knew that I was really here to help people and solve systemic issues, not perpetuate them by selling instant gratification and short-term solutions to burnt out people.
In 2016, I chose to leave the ad industry in pursuit of work that felt more aligned with my passions and marry into the military which led me to eastern North Carolina. I wouldn’t have been able to make that choice for myself if it wasn’t for me learning how to manage my personal finances enough to have an emergency fund to fall back on to carry me through the transition. This financial freedom and empowerment was something I wished for everyone. From there, I found The Financial Gym where I became an early employee and Certified Financial Trainer.
After working with hundreds of individuals and couples on their personal finances, I realized that there were two camps of people. The first, just needed a financial roadmap that would educate people on their options and what to do with their money and they would be able to make the changes. The second group gets stuck. This is because of a lot of things ranging from generational money traumas, systemic oppression, burn out, anxiety, depression, chronic illness, caretaking, parenting, and the list goes on. There was so much more to sort out before they could really start dealing with their money. That’s when I started my quest to learn other holistic practices to help my clients get unstuck.
To begin, I completed my 200-hour Kunga yoga teacher certification with Wilmington Yoga Center in 2022. In that training, I became passionate about spreading the many benefits of yoga and dispelling all of the myths that makes yoga feel inaccessible to people who don’t look like the women in Lululemon ads. My yoga teacher training opened me up to all of the 8 limbs of yoga, not just the physical postures, and most striking was the power of our breath.
After enduring the brutal year that 2020 was for all humanity, I took a hard look at my life and began to really de-condition from my workaholism and perfectionism through work with a therapist and attending a silent retreat at the Art of Living Retreat Center in Boone, NC for my 30th birthday. The transformative power of breath through the SKY Breath Meditation practice I learned at my silent retreat is what ultimately led me to pursue my trauma-informed breathwork facilitation certification with Pause Breathwork. A consistent breathwork practice was integral in helping me change my relationship to hustle culture, begin to slow down my life, adopt healthier habits, and create space to just be.
I live in Sneads Ferry, NC with my husband, dog (Betty), and cat (Mr. H). My hobbies include learning about human design, geeking out on all things being human, Peloton workouts, sharing houseplant clippings, baking sourdough bread, expanding my plant-based cooking skills, hosting friends at my waterfront home, and beaching our boat on a sandbar during the summer months.
My influential teachers include Jessica Bichler, Danielle LeBlanc, Ann Marie Phillips, Shanna Small, Heart, Lauren Alivia, Sri Sri Ravi Shankar, and Samantha Skelly.
